Botox® is a purified toxin produced from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. In Cosmetic use the amount of toxin used is small and extremely safe. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles to lessen movement, so that the line can no longer be made. Another benefit is a lifting effect on the upper eye area, giving a natural wide awake look. A treatment is usually done in about 20 minutes, very fine needles are used and no recovery time is needed. Following treatment the results can be seen in 3-14 days.

The product breaks down slowly (approximately 3-6 months) in the body and the treated areas gradually regain mobility and function. If, however, prolonged effect is desired, treatment duration tends increase each time a procedure is carried out, thus less treatments are required.

Dermal Fillers/Restylane

Dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid which is something we naturally have present in our skin to attract water, and keep it plump. As we age our hyaluronic acid reduces causing lines and wrinkles to begin forming. We also lose subcutaneous fat which results in loss of volume. Dermal fillers work by injecting hyaluronic acid back into the skin under a line or wrinkle to literally push it out, so that it disappears instantly. This plumps the skin out and replaces lost volume.

Popular areas to be treated are nose to mouth lines, smoker’s lines, mouth downturns, frown lines, fine lines around the eyes and forehead. Dermal fillers are good for individual lines, and the effect of the treatment can be seen immediately. There are different grades of dermal fillers for treating fine, medium and deep lines. As a guideline the first treatment always lasts the least amount of time; typically 5 months. Again, treatment duration increases each time it is carried out if a plan is followed. Subsequent treatments can be expected to last for 6-9 months.
